Social media is the ultimate paradox.
It is both everything and nothing.
It’s ephemeral, yet it lasts forever.
Trying to write about social media is like trying to write a riddle:
What is free but can also cost you your job?

The original social media was, of course, smoke signals.
Or if you were just pretending you cared about something, smoke virtue signals. (More commonly known as “cloud chasing.”)

On social media, what’s cool one day is cheugy the next.
Then saying cheugy also becomes cheugy.
I’d say social media rules change like the weather,
But I haven’t gone outside in years, I’m too busy watching YouTube.

Every app’s users are different.
TikTok’s slogan should be “Made by miners, for minors.”
Twitter users have no filter,
While Instagram users are mostly filters.
And on Facebook, people love to get mad at a brand.
They yell at the brand.
They demand the brand change its ways.
But the brand does not care.
It is a brand.
Well, actually it’s a UGA grad with a marketing degree.

Happy Social Media Day, everyone!
